What do you need to hear during labor?

I’m here for a quick tip to prepare you for labor. One thing your childbirth class might not cover is what you need to hear during labor. So, before your baby arrives, spend time preparing this.

Start by journaling or writing some notes about what you want labor to feel like and how you might feel. And during times of stress or intense focus or exhaustion, what has made you feel comforted? What has helped you feel empowered? This will differ from person to person. Some people want to be encouraged while others want to be left alone.

Once you’ve thought about what you’d like to hear. Tell your partner or support person. Tell them what you need to hear. Also, create a signal to tell them you’d like to be left alone. (Use this as a guide!)

Here are some great examples of things you might like to hear:

  • You’re so strong.

  • You were meant to do this.

  • We’ll meet our baby soon.

  • I’m amazed by you.

  • Our baby is so lucky to have you.

Hi! I'm Gigi; I'm a postpartum doula, mother to three toddlers, including twins, and a wife to my high school sweetheart. I’m a #swiftie who loves cheesy novels.

As a former teacher, I bring realistic, evidence-based, and actionable advice (and LOTS of handouts.) I help families get the tools they need to prepare, so once baby arrives, they can focus on resting and bonding instead of researching or stressing. I’m here to streamline the newborn learning curve and help birth parents, partners, and other family members. There isn’t ONE way to have and raise a little human. I’m here to guide parents to find THEIR way so that they can thrive in the fourth trimester and beyond.

  • Ready to learn how to create an actionable postpartum plan?

  • Ready to get the support you need in the fourth trimester?
