S3, Episode 5: Lamaze Method
In this episode, Rachael and I discuss
What do you love about the Lamaze method?
Lamaze meets people where they’re at
Lamaze is about reducing fear, instilling confidence, and filling the tool bag
Lamaze has evolved and adapted, which makes it a reputable source
What are the six healthy birth practice?
Let labor begin on its own
Walk, move around, and change positions throughout labor
Bring a loved one, friend, or doula for continuous support
Avoid interventions that are not medically necessary
Avoid giving birth on your back, and follow your body’s urges to push
Keep parent and baby together
How can we get in touch with that instinct of our bodies to get in the right position instead of being on our backs?
During pregnancy, learn about childbirth positions
Practice positions for different phases of birth and for rest
Trust your intuition
One of the Lamaze approaches to birth believes that a birthing person’s confidence and ability to give birth is either enhanced or diminished by the care provider and place of birth. How do you see that play out in the birthing space and how do you make sure that ability is enhanced?
The care provider and place of birth determine a lot about birth, so learning about care providers can teach you which is right for you
Go and meet with options, like homebirth midwives, hospital midwives, birth center midwives, and obstetricians
Ask them questions to see if you’re on the same page
Listen to your gut about whether you’re in alignment with a provider
How can people connect with you?
