S3, Episode 2: Setting Your Home on Autopilot

In this episode, Kallista and I discuss:

What does putting your home on autopilot before baby arrives look like and why is it important?

  •  Putting your home on autopilot allows you to focus on bonding with baby and healing.

  • It looks like IDAD

    • Inventory - Take an inventory of all of the tasks your home needs.

    • Delete - Remove tasks and obligations that aren’t needed the first few months.

    • Automate - Set things like bills on auto-pay, enroll in grocery deliveries, and automate anything else you can

    • Delegate - Assign tasks to partner, family, friends, or hired support for the early months.

What are the most important things to get ready before your baby arrives?

  • Along with preparing your home, new birth parents should prepare for the transition of parenthood / matrescence; if we aren’t tuned in, we miss the transition or can get lost in it

  • It’s important to set up a community of people to care for us AND our partner

  • Choosing a few staples to incorporate into your daily routine with your baby can help your identities merge

How can people connect with you?

  • If feeding is going well, you don’t need to use a pump before three to four weeks. You can start with one pumping session in the morning: feed your baby then pump 15 - 20 minutes later. Be consistent about the time.
